Articles / Oh what a great year it had been!

May you ro...hehe. Well happy new year everyone :)

Here it is. The end of 2001. The end of yet another year. The beginning of 2002. The beginning of yet another year.

Past year had many surprises, bad things, and lots of porn. In fact not only the Internet porn industry has expanded over 30% - more than all other Internet industries COMBINED, it has also gotten into the PDA and WAP phone market. With the introduction of DoCoMo’s 3G cell services in Japan, many sites were quick to announce streaming porn-video-on-demand for cell phones. Several porn kings have tried to make bids for the next tourist flight to international space station for their porn stars – they believe that cosmos pornography is the next big thing.

There has been a huge, as referred by some, economic slowdown. In reality it were useless, hopeless, pitiful ghetto companies based on non-working and retarded business models dying off. Year 2000 brought about “e-commerce boom”. Analysts predicted that our lives would be changed forever: that we will shop from home. Will not have to travel to Blockbuster and order our food online instead of going to the supermarket [and eventually have our legs and arms fall off because they would never be used anymore]. Everything had been given the “e-“ prefix. E-commerce, e-enterprise, e-chat, e-car, e-house, even e-microwave oven. Year 2001 has put all to where it belonged however. And I am glad that it happened. There was no recession; there was the process of natural selection going on. A lot of sites have closed down – very few of those I visited from time to time – but most good, well-thought out and established sites stayed. The only industry that was not affected by the recession, and in fact has picked up some extra “customers” – I think primarily due to higher unemployment – was the ever-so-mighty pornography.

There were the infamous Bin Laden’s September 11 attacks, which awoke America from its baby dream and total sense of invulnerability and safety. They also have further increased the most idiotic thing about this country – the false sense of security that government wants people to have. They scan people in airports now. And after the show-bomb suspect they randomly search people’s shoes for bombs. I have seen an 11-year-old Caucasian [I’m not racist…not all the time at least :)] blond girl’s shoes getting scanned for bombs. WHAT THE !&@^&? Also, the American people have finally started to realize that their privacy and first amendment rights are in a deep shithole [WARNING: Sick] – and quit frankly they have been in there for quite a while now.

On the technological field there have been many advances. A lot of cures have been found for deceases that were considered incurable before. A lot of progress has been made in nanotechnology and quantum computing – IBM even managed to build a quantum computer made up of 7 atoms]. Napster finally went completely tits-up, and Morpheus along with AudioGalaxy soared as more and more homes have upgraded to broadband and went on to show their protest again RIAA by downloading rigged NSYNC and BackStreet Boys songs in MP3 format. Of course you can’t forget new laws that senate passed. One of them defines hacking, even the least malicious one, to a form of terrorism. The memory prices have fallen to all time lows and Internet traffic has soared as more and more people have stayed home due to fears of incidents while traveling. As always, the most visited were the porn sites. A lot of that traffic was credited to Code Red I/II and NIMDA viruses that further exploited the stupidity of today's IT managers.

There have been great leaps in technology, bringing us closer and closer to what people thought to be science fiction when they watched movie 2001: Space Odyssey.

The one and only Google, in its tradition have released his Zeitgeist [look it up assmunch] list for year 2001. It shows what people have searched for in the past year. Its fascinating how Internet shows what the whole WORLD is watching and thinking and is concerned about at any given moment. Check out it: http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html

What will the New Year, which by the way is a year of a flaming [no, not homosexual] horse according to Chinese calendar, bring? I don’t know. I’m not a friggin’ Nostradamus for god’s sake. I will however be happy if I make it to 2003. India and Pakistan are most likely to nuke each other quite soon by the way, so there will be less people in this world, thus more oxygen for others…

For this website it will be quite an exciting and decisive year. Either the site will get popular, or I will keep writing articles that no one reads. Or maybe I will get tired of the design and send the site into yet another redesign-a-day never-ending update. I’ll try not to thought. Instead many new things will appear on this site, including the great WinGlitch tip and tutorial database, and of course the WinGirl. Details to follow :)

I shall now proceed to celebrate New Year and get drunk.

Have a happy new year and may you be happy and all the shit like that.
